12 Volt to 48 Volt Inverters
Power inverters are electronic devices which convert DC power stored in a battery or battery bank into AC power for use in devices which run on wall outlet type power. They come in various DC inverter input voltages (12 volt, 24 volt, 48 volt), and are rated in continuous output wattage, and surge wattage. They are available as modified sine DC to AC inverters, and pure sine wave inverters. Modified sine inverters use a stepped output wave to approximate the smooth sine wave AC output provided in utility grid power systems. Pure sine inverters (true sine) have a proper and well regulated pure sine wave output, that allows devices to run on the type of power they were designed for. This is more of an issue for some devices than others.
Advantages of Pure Sine DC AC Power Inverters:
• The output is a sine wave with very low harmonic distortion and clean, utility grid type power.• Inductive loads such as motors and microwaves run quieter, faster and cooler.
• Audible and electrical noise in fans, fluorescent lights, amplifiers, TV, fax and answering machines is reduced.
• Prevents computer crashes, incorrect print outs, and glitches in monitors Some devices that may not work properly with modified sine inverters and may get damaged are given below:
- Copiers, laser printers, optical hard drives.
- Devices with built in clocks such as clock radios, alarm clocks, coffee makers, video recorders, microwave ovens, etc. may not keep time correctly.
- Sewing machines with speed / microprocessor control.
- Transformer-less capacitive input powered devices like razors, flashlights, night-lights, smoke detectors etc.
- Chargers for battery packs used in power tools.
- Devices that use AC wiring for radio frequency signals.
- Output voltage control devices like dimmers, ceiling fans with motor speed control, etc.
- Some new furnaces with microprocessor control / Oil burner primary controls.
- High intensity discharge (HID) lamps like Metal Halide lamps.
- Some fluorescent lamps / light fixtures that have power factor correction.
Inverter Options
Though more expensive than modified sine inverters, a pure sine DC to AC power inverter provides better performance and longer life for most of the devices they power, which ultimately results in lower overall cost. For audio and video applications, we always recommend a pure sine power inverter. We carry 300 watt to 4000 watt inverters, for 12 volt, 24 volt, and 48 volt inverter applications.
